At today's Congressional hearing about the new rates for online radio that would essentially destroy it (as readers of this blog already know), SoundExchange, which was scheduled to receive the new royalty payments on Monday morning (since the enforcement date falls on a Sunday), made a startling statement.
The SoundExchange executive [Jon Simson, executive director] promised -- in front of Congress -- that SoundExchange will not enforce the new royalty rates. Webcasters will stay online, as new rates are hammered out.

Congress isn't the bad people, it's SE :)
We still need everyone to contact their house of reps. people and congressmen/women and tell them to cosponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act!

Well, it's good news, but it's not a "Win."
There's still nothing preventing Sound Exchange from enforcing their draconian Internet play rates in the future.
But, hey, a stay of execution is far better than a loss.

Right, it's not a win for the war but we've won the battle :P
People need to tell their reps. to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act!
It's an old thread, but somewhat personal to me. The casualties from this are great... Too many stations have gone under and have moved on where this 'reversal' (if you can call it that) means little to them.
Too little too late for some, just in time for a station such as this.

Well things are still very volatile and this "win" was just a win in the battle, but not the war. The war is still waging and our future is quite uncertain. The Internet Radio Equality Act is what I'm putting a lot of my hope/faith in. We need it passed or internet radio may die!

Don't forget net neutrality also, we need that passed or there will be NO MORE INTERNET COMMUNITY, it will be just like regular tv and radio. So please contact your representative or do your job to support Radio Equality and NET neutrality to keep what we live for and love alive.:D
